Welcome to Growers Northern Ireland
Growers NI was formed as an
association in the early 1980s. It was then known as The Northern Ireland
Nursery Stock Growers Association (NINSGA). At that time membership was
restricted to wholesale hardy nursery stock growers.
The main objectives of the
association were and remain
to provide analysis of existing
and potential home and export markets
to extend the expertise and
knowledge of its members
to improve public awareness of
plants through various promotional activities
From our own resources we produced
two trade directories and later collaborated with DARD to produce subsequent
directories.
During the 1980s and 1990s we
promoted our industry, from our own resources, by holding two
tradeshows. We later, in association with NI Groundsmen, held several
tradeshows at the RUAS at Balmoral in Belfast.
In 2001 it was decided to open
membership to bedding plant and cut flower growers and the name of the
association was changed to Growers NI.
We meet at Greenmount College and
other venues on a monthly basis. At these meetings we debate issues affecting
our industry.Usually a visiting speaker attends each meeting ; generally these
are consultants, representatives from horticultural chemical/ equipment
companies or nursery proprietors from Great Britain or the Republic
of Ireland.
Over the years we have helped
organise study tours to England and further afield.
